No início de maio, 47 trabalhadores rurais que prestavam serviço em uma fazenda em Bela Vista de Goiás, na Região Metropolitana de Goiânia/GO, sofreram intoxicação durante a aplicação de agrotóxico na lavoura pulverizado por um avião. “Os trabalhadores vieram de Morrinho, a 130 km de Goiânia. Eles estavam na fazenda vizinha, que fazia manejo do milho. Aí, passou o avião pulverizando. Foi então que eles passaram mal”, afirma Saulo Reis, da coordenação executiva da CPT (Comissão Pastoral da Terra) de Goiás em entrevista ao Brasil de Fato.
Os trabalhadores foram atendidos no Hospital Municipal Antônio Batista da Silva e segundo enfermeira que atendeu alguns dos trabalhadores, em entrevista ao portal G1, eles apresentaram diferentes tipos de reações. Entre os sintomas estavam desmaio, vômito, dores de cabeça e tontura. Após serem atendidos no pronto-socorro da unidade, os 47 foram liberados, nenhum precisou ficar internado.
Até o momento não se tem informações sobre a substância que atingiu os trabalhadores, nem sobre a fazenda responsável pela pulverização. O MPT de Goiás diz que em relação ao acidente com os trabalhadores, o caso está sendo investigado e foi instaurado um IC (Inquérito Civil) para apurar o ocorrido. “Como se encontra na fase de investigação, o órgão prefere não se manifestar até o término desta fase”, diz a assessoria do MPT.
CENÁRIO
Apesar de os trabalhadores já terem recebido alta, o episódio traz à tona a gravidade dos problemas gerados pelas contaminações provocadas por agrotóxicos na região e no país. Segundo o Boletim Informativo da Coordenação do CIATox-GO (Centro de Informação e Assistência Toxicológica do Estado de Goiás), em 2018, o estado registrou 475 intoxicações por agrotóxicos, e em 2019, o número subiu para 516. O total de 2020 não foi atualizado pelo órgão.
Conforme o procurador do Trabalho e coordenador do Fórum Goiano de Combate aos Impactos dos Agrotóxicos Leomar Daroncho, o Brasil figura entre os maiores consumidores de agrotóxicos, com forte presença, por exemplo, do glifosato, o veneno mais vendido no mundo em função do desenvolvimento dos transgênicos – soja, milho e algodão. “Na perspectiva da saúde humana, proliferam estudos independentes que correlacionam a exposição ao glifosato a doenças crônicas, como o câncer, e malformações em crianças, além de outras enfermidades que estão sendo pesquisadas, como o autismo, a depressão e o mal de Parkinson”, revela. O procurador lembra que, em 2015, a IARC/OMS (Agência Internacional de Pesquisa sobre o Câncer) classificou o glifosato como provável causador de câncer, pondo as autoridades de saúde do mundo em alerta.
Daroncho afirma que, apesar das evidências científicas, a indústria química segue pressionando e conseguindo a liberação de novos venenos, muitos deles proibidos nos países de origem devido à comprovação da toxicidade para os seres humanos, e o afrouxamento das leis e normas de proteção da saúde do trabalhador, das comunidades e do meio ambiente. Para ele, o setor econômico insiste no “mito do uso seguro”, segundo o qual, se for utilizado de forma adequada, o veneno não causaria danos. “Não é o que pensam as autoridades de saúde da União Europeia, inclusive nos países de origem das formulações químicas. O ‘mito do uso seguro’ ignora dados essenciais da nossa realidade: temos alto índice de analfabetismo funcional dos trabalhadores que manuseiam os produtos, em algumas regiões chega a 80%; as nossas condições climáticas tornam improvável o uso de equipamentos de proteção desenvolvidos para climas temperados ou frios; e as dificuldades para o acompanhamento dessa atividade de alto risco pelos órgãos de fiscalização são notórias”, reflete.
Apesar da subnotificação, já que a OMS considera que apenas 2% das intoxicações são notificadas, são altos os registros oficiais no Ministério da Saúde dos casos de intoxicação e de tentativas de suicídios nas populações expostas aos agrotóxicos, sendo que em relação aos trabalhadores o dado talvez mais preocupante não é conhecido: o impacto nas doenças crônicas, que se desenvolvem gradualmente a partir da acumulação das exposições ao longo dos anos, afirma o procurador.
PULVERIZAÇÃO
A prática da pulverização tem despontado na área rural, incidindo sobre a intoxicação dos trabalhadores. Em entrevista ao Brasil de Fato, Reis, da Comissão Pastoral da Terra, diz que há pouco mais de cinco anos, os aviões pulverizadores começaram a fazer parte da paisagem na região de Goiás. O procurador Daroncho destaca que o uso do agrotóxico é um problema em si: o indiscriminado uso agrava a situação, mas a pulverização aérea potencializa os danos. “A pulverização aérea é uma prática que vem sendo banida em países europeus. O envenenamento do ambiente é intencional, sendo que a deriva em relação aos cursos d’água e às comunidades vizinhas é praticamente inevitável. No Brasil, além dos casos trágicos, como o da escola de Rio Verde, em Goiás, em 2013, intensificaram-se os registros de envenenamento de comunidades, famílias e crianças, inclusive com episódios recentes”, alerta. Segundo ele, vários desses casos estão judicializados ou sendo investigados pelo Ministério Público do Trabalho. Ele afirma que há investigação inclusive sobre suspeitas de uso de agrotóxicos como arma química para a expulsão de pequenos produtores. “Também não deve ser esquecido que muitos casos não são registrados, por medo ou por desconhecimento da ação do veneno”, completa Daroncho.
Percebe-se, no entanto, que há um “acordar” da sociedade para esta problemática. “A mobilização das comunidades afetadas tem viabilizado o surgimento de legislações municipais e estaduais restritivas. Destaque para a Lei do Ceará que proíbe a pulverização aérea de agrotóxicos no estado. A Lei cearense nº 16.820/2019 é um exemplo de mobilização da comunidade em razão da estarrecedora denúncia de más-formações congênitas e puberdade precoce na Chapada do Apodi/CE, conforme estudo técnico da Universidade Federal do Ceará. No momento, esta Lei está sendo questionada pelo setor econômico que defende o uso de agrotóxico no Supremo Tribunal Federal”, revela o procurador.
Apesar do cenário de desafios, Daroncho vê o tema Agrotóxico e Saúde e Segurança no Trabalho ganhando espaço. “Observa-se crescente preocupação com o assunto, na medida em que a sociedade toma consciência dos riscos e dos danos. Paulatinamente a questão vem ganhando visibilidade na pauta nos espaços de discussão sobre a saúde humana e do meio ambiente”, comemora o procurador.
